AMD’s last processor based on AM4 socket, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, has just arrived on the market, and it has already been titled the best gaming processor currently available. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D was announced back in October 2021, and it has now been made available to the market in April-2022. The Ryzen 7 5800x3D features 8 cores and 16 threads, with a base clock of 3.5GHz AMD and a Max Boost clock of 4.5GHz. It is the fastest processor that AMD has ever made, competing with the Intel i9-12900k in gaming. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D’s uses AMD’s 3D-V Cache technology and has a 100MB cache (4MB L2, 96MB L3). With an MSRP of $449.99, the value that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D provides is hard to compete with. With the extra boost in the cache, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D offers an increase of 15 percent in gaming benchmarks compared to its predecessor and competes with the Intel i9-12900k (even performs even faster in the majority of games); both the gaming and productivity benchmarks also support this claim. With a TDP of 105W, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D runs fairly warm and needs decent cooling. This article is a guide for picking the Best CPU Cooler for Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

  • A bit expensive

Noctua has been a renowned cooler manufacturing company for almost seventeen years. With all these years of experience comes a variety of top-notch products feasible for an extensive range of consumers. Unlike other cooler manufacturers, Noctua decided to take a distinctive approach by being a pioneer of a unique colored cooler. It is well-known for producing brown wooden coolers, which easily stand out from other coolers and look pretty decent inside a PC. After making high-end coolers, Noctua decided to launch a cooler that would cater to users who are on a tight budget. Therefore, they have produced Noctua NH-L9.

The Noctua NH-L9 was launched as a low-profile cooling and used as an alternative to the stock cooler. Since it provided excellent cooling performance while being a compact and economical cooler, it had opened doors for the company to explore more possibilities for this model. So, Noctua launched an AMD and an Intel version of this low-profile cooler, called the Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 and Noctua NH-L9i, respectively. Since we’re looking at the best low-profile cooler for Ryzen 7 5800X3D, we will dig deeper into the Noctua NH-L9a-AM4. (Read our Noctua NH L9A AM4 Review for more details)

The Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 is a low-profile cooler that stands 37 mm tall and with only 114mm width, allowing it to be perfectly compatible with any Mini-ITX, Nas enclosures, rackmount service chassis, and also in the normal mid-tower PC case. Its compact size offers 100% RAM clearance and PCIe compatibility as the cooler is comfortably beside the RAM slots. While it is small, it is still a top flow CPU cooler, which means all the fan’s airflow is pushed down through the heatsink and out to the sides. This will actively cool the motherboard’s VRM components around the CPU socket.

In terms of its heatsink, it consists of 55 aluminum cooling fins that are thick and robust, unlike its fragile appearance. It has two copper heat pipes with a diameter of approximately 6 mm. These are made of nickel-plated copper, which plays a vital role in adding depth to the heatsink’s design while also increasing the material’s longevity. These pipes run in a U-shaped to make good contact with the cooler’s base plate and evenly touch all the cooling fins. The endings of the heat pipes are evenly finished and pop out from the side of the cooler.

The base plate is made from solid nickel-plated copper and has a flat surface with a radial sunburst pattern etched into its surface. The finish of this base plate is one of the best since it also holds a similar quality as Noctua did for the NH-D15.

Now for the most crucial part, the fans. The Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 uses one of the Noctua’s NF-A9x14 PWM fans with a rotational speed ranging from 600 to 2500 RPM. However, you can lower the maximum rate from 2500 RPM to only 1800 RPM by using the Low Noise Adapter (LNA), which is included with the box. The fan has a total sound rating of 23.6 dBA, which is 14.8 dBA using the low noise adapter. Additionally, rubber pads are offered with the fan that helps further to increase the quiet noise operation of the cooler. It also features one of the best available Noctua SSo2 bearing systems that provide optimal performance with fewer vibrations. The maximum static pressure of this 95W cooler is 2.11 mmH₂O which is 1.06 mmH₂O using the LNA.

What We Liked

Noctua NH-L9a-AM4
Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 CPU Cooler | Photo: Our Review.

Despite its small and fragile look, this low-profile cooler exceeds expectations. Its small size allows 100% RAM clearance. It provides excellent performance while being reasonably inaudible. Noctua’s features show how dedicated the company is to providing value, even for the low-profile cooler, such as the SSo2 bearings and rubber pads to increase performance and lower noise levels further.

What We Disliked

Pointing out bad things seems like a crime for a cooler that rests at this price tag. However, we have to provide you with the cons as well. The overclocking process becomes difficult since the cooler has a slightly lower TDP than the Ryzen 7 5800x3D. Apart from that, there is no RGB in the cooler since it maintains its wooden brown look. They could add RGB even though it would be optional to switch it on.

What Sets the NH-L9a-AM4 Apart From Its Competitors?

Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 Benchmarks
Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 Benchmarks & Comparison to Other CPU Coolers.

We will start with the most apparent reason, the color. The brown and beige color does a great job of standing out from the rest of the coolers market has to offer. Apart from that, it is important to mention the overall build quality that Noctua kept for its low-profile cooler is excellent because it matches with the other top-notch coolers. This attribute is rarely found if we compare it to other coolers.

Verdict

The Noctua NH-L9a-AM4 provides immense value at a reasonable price, suitable for consumers with a tight budget. This excellent cooler can fit anything while performing incredibly. However, its TDP prevents users from embarking on the journey of overclocking. The lack of RGB does not seem to be an issue because of its unique color, but users might find it a problem. Other than that, this compact cooler easily secures the spot as the Best Low-Profile CPU cooler for Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

Pros

  • Relatively cheaper
  • Great RAM Clearance
  • Allows for overclocking easily

Cons

  • Very tall (might not fit in some mid-tower cases)
  • No RGB fans

The DeepCool has been a prominent CPU cooler company, providing all sorts of coolers ranging in different prices. They have produced some of the best high-end air coolers. Since we are looking for a CPU cooler for our Ryzen 7, 5800x3D, we will explore one of DeepCool’s best higher-end coolers, the DeepCool AS500 Plus. This is an improved version of the DeepCool AS500 that was smaller and only had one fan. As the name suggests, the DeepCool AS500 Plus provides enhanced cooling performance hence the plus being in its name. Previously, it consisted of black fans with shiny silver radiators, so DeepCool decided to cater to the users that wanted an all-white cooler, so they introduced the DeepCool AS500 Plus in white color. (Read our dedicated take on DeepCool AS500 Plus White Cooler Review)

The DeepCool AS500 Plus White is a dual tower design that is 142mm wide, 98 mm thick, and 164 mm tall. With the TDP rating of 220 W, you can effortlessly cool even a CPU with 16 cores without any problem. Since most of its size is utilized by its height, you can easily populate all four RAM slots even with tall memory sticks. The RGB on the cooler uses a 5V connection on the supported motherboard and can be controlled by the motherboard’s software. If your motherboard doesn’t support the RGB connection, DeepCool has included a physical A-RGB controller.

The fans TF 140s PWN-controlled fans have a minimum speed of 550 RPM and a maximum of 1200 RPM. This tall cooler includes the fluid dynamic bearing type with an interesting fin design that improves airflow and reduces noise. It delivers 70.81 CFM of airflow and 1.14 mmH₂O of static pressure while only producing a maximum noise output of 29.2dB(A). The heat sink base is not mirrored polished, and machine marks are also visible. However, it arrives with 5 nickel-plated heat pipes 6 mm thick.

In terms of design, the fans have a criss-cross radial pattern around the fan, similar to the pattern found in car tires. The build quality is top-notch, whether the aluminum fins or the fans. A matte white plastic cover covers the endings of the heat pipes, and two subtle RGB linings slither across the top of this cover, providing both a minimalistic and elite look.

What We Liked

DeepCool has offered us a cooler that looks decent and performs incredibly. At first glance, this gigantic elite cooler seems very expensive, but it isn’t. The high TDP of 220W allows users to easily overclock their Ryzen 7 5800X3D without having any performance issues. Its size offers maximum RAM clearance, so it is a relief to have a huge cooler that also provides room for its fellow memory sticks.

What We Disliked

There isn’t much to complain about except for its height. Despite this tall cooler’s RAM clearance, it might be a problem for users with a smaller case as it would simply not fit. Additionally, the finish of the base plate might be a letdown to some users who prefer a perfectly polished base since it contains a few machine markings.

What sets the DeepCool AS500 Plus White apart from its competitors?

DeepCool AS500 Plus White
DeepCool AS500 Plus White Benchmarks & Comparison to other CPU Coolers – Photo: Tech4Gamers.

Many huge CPU coolers are problematic since they protrude over the RAM slots where the RAM hits the fan, so users have to shift the fan to accommodate the RAM. Even if the cooler and the RAMs are installed properly, the RGB RAMS will usually get covered by the sheer size of the enormous cooler.

However, this is not an issue for the DeepCool AS500 Plus White since it comfortably rests beside the RAM slots due to its slim width. Other enormous CPU coolers are not as cheap as the DeepCool AS500 Plus White. Finally, the apparent white color seals the deal by genuinely setting it apart from most of the coolers the market offers. We even included it in our Best White CPU Cooler List.

Verdict

DeepCool AS500 Plus White
DeepCool AS500 Plus White Clearence and Size, Photo: Tech4Gamers.

The DeepCool AS500 Plus White is in its league. This cooler goes above and beyond by providing excellent cooling solutions at a lower price. However, you should consider one thing. Since the cooler is relatively taller, the last you want is the cooler not fitting in your PC case. It is best to check that it matches the dimension of your case, but it will fit in most of the cases. Other than that, its design quickly attracts attention and looks great in any case, even if it doesn’t don the all-white theme. This makes it the Best White CPU Cooler for Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240mm

Best Budget AIO Cooler For Ryzen 7 5800X3D

ARCTIC Liquid Freezer II 240 A-RGB

Specifications : Type: 240mm AIO Liquid Cooler | TDP: 250W | RGB: RGB backlighting | Dimensions: 277 mm x 120 mm x 38 mm | Fan: 2x Arctic P12 PWM RGB 120mm | Fan Speed: 200–1800 RPM | Socket Support: LGA-1200, LGA-115X, LGA 2011-v3, R4 LGA-2066, and AM4

Pros

  • Best Price
  • The pump has its own VRM Fan
  • Performance similar to 360mm AiOs

Cons

  • Poor finish
  • No manuals provided

Arctic is a famous brand producing one of the best coolers for its valuable customers. They have launched every type of cooler ranging in different sizes. These coolers include an AIO liquid cooler with all the desirable sizes for users with other preferences and budgets. We will peek at one of Arctic’s most famous coolers on the market, the 240 mm version of Arctic Liquid Freezer II.

At first glance, the Arctic Liquid Freezer II quickly diverts its attention to its unique piece, its pump unit. This pump unit is similar to a toy rocket with one window where the window is a tiny VRM fan. This 40 mm fan is present to silently provide cooling down to the VRM on the motherboard, which is often neglected. This VRM fan comes in a clutch in poor airflow since its speed ranges from 1000 RPM to 3000 RPM. The use of this fan is optional as it can be switched off by unplugging it. The 240 mm heavy-duty radiator is 38 mm thick, an odd thickness for a radiator. An astonishing 450 mm long tubing goes from the pump unit to the radiator. The pump’s speed ranges from 800 RPM to 2000 RPM and is barely audible while only consuming power from 0.5W to 2.7W.

In terms of its fans, Arctic uses two of the Arctic P12 PWM RGB fans, each 120 mm in size. These powerful fans come with rubber pads to reduce vibrations. The Arctic has started using more rubber bumpers and fluid dynamic bearings, which in turn reduced the overall vibrations by up to 95%. I called the fans powerful earlier because these fans can outperform some of the 360 mm AIO liquid coolers present on the market. These 120 mm fans range from 200 to 1800 RPM while maintaining low noise levels of 32.6 dB(A). It has a maximum airflow of 48.8 CFM with a maximum static pressure of 1.85 mmH₂O while only consuming around 1.0 to 2.7 W of power.

This cooler has fully customizable RGB, which is compatible with most software. If the RGB is neglected, the design is glorious with the matte black on both the radiator and the pump unit. The nylon braided tubing has a black and white pattern with a plastic cover placed on both endings. The fans are translucent and are well-lit when illuminated.

What We Liked

The Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240mm is a great AIO liquid cooler that offers performance similar to most 360 mm coolers. It impresses with its unique-designed pump unit and price tag, which is relatively cheaper than most the 240 mm coolers. Previously the Arctic only gave 2 years of warranty, but they improved it by providing a whopping 6 years warranty with this product that further adds credibility.

What we Disliked

There’s no point in complaining about a liquid cooler being cheaper and performing outstandingly. However, the nylon braided pump tubes are not rotatable, so it is best to be careful while adjusting to prevent the pipes from excessive bending. Furthermore, adding RGB to the tiny VRM fan would have been a decent addition since it would look even better.

What sets the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240mm apart from its competitors?

If we were to choose one thing unique about this product, it is obvious, but we will still pinpoint it to you again: the cute VRM fan sitting in the middle of the pump unit. It provides a toy-like appearance and stands out from all the other coolers since this is a distinctive feature that Arctic chooses. Finally, the low price tag for a 240mm seals the deal.

Verdict

The Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240mm has it all, the looks, the performance, and the ability to win hearts. However, the VRM fan may seem unnecessary to some people, but the freedom to unplug it is admirable. RGB on the VRM fan would give it a better look, but overall it has been elevated to the ranks of being the Best Budget AIO Cooler for Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

EK-AIO 360 D-RGB

Best AIO Cooler For Ryzen 7 5800X3D

EK-AIO 360 D-RGB
EK-AIO 360 D-RGB – Photo from our Review.

Specifications : Type: 360 mm AIO Liquid Cooler | TDP: 250W | RGB: D-RGB backlighting | Radiator Dimensions: 395 x 120 x 27 mm | Fan: 3x EK-Vardar S 120ER D-RGB | Fan Speed: 550 – 2200 RPM ± 10%  | Pump Speed: 850 – 2600 RPM ± 10% | Fan Dimensions: 120 x 120 x 25 mm | Socket Support: LGA: 1150, 1151, 1155, 1156, 1200, 2011, 2011-3, 2066 and AM4

Pros

  • Perfect for Overclocking sessions (though Ryzen 7 5800X3D doesn’t support OC)
  • Better looking RGB
  • 5 years warranty (previously 2 years)

Cons

  • Slightly noisy at max load

EK is one of the companies that have had an unusual beginning. Instead of starting with an air cooler and finally making their way to the AIO coolers and custom loops, EK decided to do the opposite. They took their custom loop expertise to produce AIO liquid coolers since they tend to have easier installation while falling on relatively lesser price tags. For this, EK has launched a wide range of its top-of-the-line AIO liquid coolers, but today we will uncover the EK-AIO 360 D-RGB. (You can also check our dedicated take on EK-AIO Elite 360 D-RGB Review)

We get a 27 mm thick high-grade aluminum radiator compatible with most ATX cases right out of the box. With the total thickness of the whole thing being 53 mm, it becomes a perfect fit for most cases. The pump has a dense copper fin structure that provides sufficient cooling flow while connected with 400 mm tube pipes. The copper-plated base of the CPU arrives with a pre-applied thermal paste patched onto it even though they also provide an additional thermal compound.

Onto the fans, they are not to be taken lightly because they are expensive when sold separately. EK offers three of its 120 mm EK-Vardar S 120ER D-RGB costly fans. These fans have a rotational speed ranging from around 550 to 2200 RPM, while they have a high static pressure of 2.89 mmH₂O at maximum speed. Moreover, these expensive fans provide optimal performance while being moderately noisy since they maintain an airflow of 66.04 CFM at the top speed while producing 36.4 dba of sound. Furthermore, this AIO cooler’s 250 W of TDP makes it perfect for overclocking.

Moving to the design, the EK-AIO 360 D-RGB looks very elegant, with the translucent pump unit illuminating with D-RGB with the shiny EK logo engraved on it. The fans hold the same translucent look, with the D-RGB evenly spreading around each fan, giving it a premium look. The overall black color gives it a stealthy look that further enhances the overall appearance of the cooler.

What We Liked

EK-AIO 360 D-RGB
EK-AIO 360 D-RGB Copper Base | Photo Our Review.

There is too much to like about this product. Firstly, the EK-Vardar S fans provide excellent cooling solutions since they have features that improve the airflow. Impressively, EK didn’t previously include a longer tube pipe, but this time, they extended them for the EK-AIO 360 D-RGB as they understood that users might need a longer pipe to adjust their CPU coolers comfortably. It also arrives with a 5-year warranty, considering EK only had 2 years warranty for their previous products.

What We Disliked

It wouldn’t be fair to speak against this premium product. However, this version has a central translucent pump unit. Considering that both the elite and the basic version hold a solid-colored pump unit, this one looks slightly cheap. Other than that, this is a beast in itself.

What sets the EK-AIO 360 D-RGB apart from its competitors?

With the tube pipes, EK has designed them so that their position differs from most of the AIO liquid coolers. The EK logo is so impressive that even if the pump unit is placed in an unorganized way, the logo still appears as it is oriented the right way. This is not found in any of the coolers found on the market.

Verdict

The EK-AIO 360 D-RGB is a powerhouse of a cooler, providing 250W of TDP that makes it perfect for overclocking. The design looks elegant and can be paired with any PC case. Pros

  • Better RAM and PCI-e clearance
  • Almost silent

Cons

  • Might not fit in some mid-tower chassis

Noctua has always gone above and beyond with its coolers. They are briefly described in one of the coolers in this list. However, we should go any further without admiring their qualities. They aim to provide better cooling performance while maintaining an excellent airflow and keeping the overall cooler less noisy. Known for revamping their current models in an all-black color, this time, Noctua has decided to produce an improved version of their NH-D15, called the NH-D15S. (Read our NOCTUA NH-D15S Chromax Black Review for more details)

The Noctua NH-D15S greatly differs from its predecessor by providing more RAM clearance of 65 mm for tall memory sticks. Although both the coolers are 150 mm wide, the Noctua NH-D15S has an off-set design where the coolers incline towards the top edge of the motherboard, which allows for this increased RAM clearance. It has an off-set design which increases the space between the heatsink and the graphics card. Height is also a factor that has been improved with the Noctua NH-D15S; decreasing only 5 mm from its previous model allows users to install the fan on the lower fin array. It is also $50 less than the Noctua NH-D15, which is excellent value for money considering the performance.

Although Noctua has made an enhanced version of a model, they don’t want to stop there. Known for owning a separate category of black-themed models, Noctua goes on to dop their Noctua NH-D15S in the black paint. However, they don’t merely give an ordinary paint job. Noctua NH-D15S Chromax Black is born with a completely matte black appearance. The only thing that lacks the black color is the base plate. The nickel-plated base plate has a smooth mirror-like surface that reflects everything. This smoothness means that the thermal compound will evenly spread on it.

Much like the Noctua NH-D15, this has a twin-tower heat sink design that uses around 45 aluminum cooling fins on each tower. Unlike the Noctua NH-D15, this variant’s lower 7 cooling fins are trimmed to almost half of the size to provide the best possible clearance. The cooler uses six copper-made heat pipes with 6 mm each. These black-coated pipes directly contact the cooler’s base by being soldered directly under the base plate. It uses only one NF-A15 HS-PWM chromax black fan, which uses the Noctua’s well-known SSo2. With speeds ranging from 300 RPM to 1500 RPM, producing 24.6 dB(A). With the LNA, the maximum speed can be reduced to 1200 RPM while making only 19.2 dB(A) of noise. Rubber pads and flow acceleration channels reduce vibrations and speed up the airflow while keeping the whole system quiet. The fan’s cable is long enough to reach the socket in the motherboard with a 4 pin connector.

Speaking of the design, an all-black coating is applied to everything, including the heatsink, the fans, and the mounting system itself. The matte black heat pipe endings are exposed, but they all are evenly machined, giving it a stylish symmetrical appearance. The cable of the fan is covered with high-quality sleeving. Overall, the cooler looks stealthy, robust, and sleek.

What We Liked

The soldering of the heat pipes under the base plate is one of the best methods to contact both surfaces. It makes a rigid bond between the two components, transferring the heat away from the surface and into the heat sink. The overall smoothness of the cooler makes it appear even better than it is.

What We Disliked

There isn’t much to dislike about this product. If we were still forced to speak something about its cons, it would be its price tag. Although it is cheaper than the NH-D15, it still costs $10 more than other high-end coolers. But with a great price comes greater performance and lower noise levels, so it is worth it.

What sets the Noctua NH-D15S Chromax Black apart from its competitors?

Noctua NH-D15S Chromax Black
Noctua NH-D15S Chromax Black Cooler Performance Benchmarks & Comparison.

Due to its off-set design, the space between the heatsink and the graphics card is increased. This is an impressive action taken by Noctua because above the first PCIe slot of the motherboard; there is a tiny M.2 socket that is hard to reach with the massive heat sinks of other high-end CPU coolers.

Verdict

Noctua has nailed it with this product. By providing high performance with a 220W TDP in deficient noise levels, the Noctua NH-D15S Chromax Black offers value at a great price. The higher TDP makes room for overclocking as well. Appearance-wise, it is one of the best-looking coolers on the market. The product has smooth edges and screams high-quality, which seals the deal and makes Noctua NH-D15S Chromax.Black the perfect candidate for the best overall CPU cooler for Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Pros

  • Push-Pull configuration supported
  • Very Economical

Cons

  • No RGB

Cooler Master is back with another product, and of course, it is an air cooler since Cooler Master is well-known in that category. Previously, Cooler Master released one of the most recommended CPU coolers, Cooler Master Hyper 212, whose noise levels exceeded the above-average mark. To counter that, they came up with a revised product, aiming to focus on giving it the attributes of stealth. Cooler Master unveils the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition, which is all-black and manages to keep the noise levels low, easily fitting in the definition of stealth.

Upon uncovering the specifications, we got a completely black cooler with four heat pipes attached to the cold plate at the bottom. The heat pipe ends are covered by caps, with eight caps located at the top of the cooler. This cooler is 158.8 mm tall with 123 mm in length and 77 mm in width, which offers the maximum RAM clearance.

The fan it uses is the Silencio FP120 in the 120 mm size, which keeps the airflow regulated with lower noise levels. The speed ranges from 800 RPM to 2000 RPM while producing a maximum airflow of 42 CFM and an airflow of 2.9 mmH₂O. The blade design of this fan allows the fan to generate 25% more air pressure than other designs. It also consumes less power and reduces the total noise output. To confirm these claims, the fan only consumes 0.96 W and produces a maximum noise output of 26 dBA.

Furthermore, like Cooler Master’s other fan models, the Silencio FP120 fan also has a lifespan of 160,000 hours. You are also given the freedom to use add another fan for a push-pull configuration. In terms of design, it arrives with a matte jet black that perfectly pairs with the brushed gunmetal-finished aluminum present in the front. It contains dark chrome-plated aluminum fin arrays with eight caps to cover the heat pipes, adding depth to the appearance. The Cooler Master logo sits at the top on the dark aluminum.

What We Liked

The all-black looks decent, and the wide 5-blade Silencio FP120 does an incredible job of keeping the performance above par. It offers a push-pull configuration, which is the sought-after quality users expect from the products, and this one has it. The cooler looks very elegant with the sleek design that further gives it points.

What We Disliked

There aren’t any defects in this cooler. It only offers a 2-year warranty, which could have been increased since many other brands have extended the warranty of their products. Other than that, this is a great cooler.

What sets the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition apart from its competitors?

This is one of the few coolers that support an additional fan that will aid in the push-pull configuration process. The size gives feasible RAM clearance, and the noise is almost inaudible. All this comes at an excellent price, making it more affordable for users on a tight budget.

Verdict

Its size is neither too big nor too small, which provides a lot of room for the RAM but still only leaves tight spaces. It is recommended to install the RAM sticks first and then install the cooler. This allows both of the components to sit comfortably without any space issues. The push-pull configuration aspect, its almost inaudible nature paired with the design, and the price tag make Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black Edition it the Best Budget CPU Cooler for Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

Best Silent CPU Cooler For Ryzen 7 5800X3D

be quiet! Dark Rock 4
be quiet! Dark Rock 4: Photo – be Quiet!

Specifications : Type: Single-Tower Air Cooler | TDP: 250 W | Heat Pipes: 7x 6mm | RGB: None | Dimensions: 146 mm x 136 mm x 163 mm | Fan: 1x Silent Wings 135mm PWM and 1x Silent Wings 3 120mm PWM | Socket Support: 1700 / 1200 / 2066 / 1150 / 1151 / 1155 / 2011(-3) Square ILM, AM4

Pros

  • Silent operation
  • Supports additional 120 mm fan

Cons

  • No RGB
  • Expensive

As the name suggests, be quite! is a brand that not only focuses on the above-par performance but they actively work on keeping the system, well, quiet. This brand is well-known for providing one of the immensely silent cooling systems. This time, it has arrived with the be quiet! Dark Rock 4

The Dark Rock 4 by be quiet! is a dual tower designed to achieve excellent heat dissipation through small spaces. Around 45 aluminum cooling fins are directly soldered over the copper heat pipes in the heat sink. Seven large copper heat pipes run from the base through the cooling fins. With 163 mm in height and 146 mm in width, this cooler is not for smaller builds.

However, the most iconic parts of this cooler are the different-sized fans. be quiet! Two fans of different sizes, one is 120 mm in diameter, and the other is 135 mm. The larger fan rests between the two heat sinks because this is where it belongs since a smaller fan in the front would reduce the RAM clearance. The larger fan has a maximum speed of 1200 RPM, and the smaller one reaches 1500 RPM. We can certainly not talk about the factor that this fan’s brand is known for, the noise levels. The be quiet! Dark Rock 4 produces an insignificant noise level of only 24.3dB(A) at 100% speed, truly living up to its name.

In terms of the design, be quite! hasn’t used normal black paint since it would hinder the heat dissipation. Instead, they went for the ceramic particle coating, which gives a much more efficient heat transfer. This makes the glossy jet black color a quality that adds to the cooler more than just its appearance. The endings of the heat pipes have a cap that is machined in a round shape that makes it look like they are bolts. There are 16 of these caps where only two are removable. The top cover holds a sleek matte grey with a subtle pattern engraved on it, which looks minimalistic. The be quite! logo is also slapped right in the middle, which adds to this cooler’s appearance.

What We Liked

On the price side, it is surprisingly good for the features it offers. This huge cooler provides enough space for its fellow RAM slots by using a few design tactics. It has two fans which provide ultimate performance while being almost silent. The design is simple and follows the “less is more” rule, making it more attractive to look at.

What We Disliked

Judging it for the bad aspects seems like a crime. However, if we were to pick out the flaws, it would be the TDP. Even though it offers an astonishing 250 W TDP, the temperatures would still exceed above-average levels since it is not an AIO liquid cooler. Therefore, overclocking is possible with this cooler, but the possibilities are limited.

What sets the Dark Rock 4 apart from its competitors?

There are two holes at the top edge of the cooler, and these are spaces be quite! has left for you to dig with the company-provided screwdriver down to the bracket and screw in the cooler. The two different-sized fans used are one of the most iconic factors of this cooler that sets it apart from its competitors, and be quite! has gone to extreme limits to provide better RAM clearance.

Verdict

be quiet! Dark Rock 4
be quiet! Dark Rock 4 Accesories

The be quiet! Dark Rock 4 has been a great cooler to review. Due to its height, ensure that it fits your PC case. However, you are free to place any higher-end tall RAM, which could easily be accommodated besides this bulky cooler. Although the bolt cover on the top looks decent, sixteen of them look cluttered even though they are evenly spaced. Overall, due to its name and its performance, the Dark Rock 4 has easily achieved the title of being the Best Silent CPU cooler for Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

Cons

  • The pump has no PWM adjustability
  • The fan isn’t fully sleeved

Cooler Master has been known for producing one of the most economical and well-performing CPU coolers. Although their air coolers are the most popular, Cooler Master doesn’t neglect the liquid cooling solutions category. For this reason, they have produced the Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML360 Illusion. It arrives with A-RGB gen 2 controller with three 3 pin A-RGB connectors on one side while a USB and power input ports on the other. This controller is connected to the motherboard by the USB header.

This 360 mm liquid cooler uses three of CoolerMaster’s MASTERFAN MF120R ARGB fans. The design of these fans is not ordinary since it has RGB rings around the circumference of the fans. Although this looks good in appearance, it hinders the performance as the blade of the fans are shorter than most of CoolerMaster’s other cooler fans. However, the fan has a hybrid design that uses a combination of a Jett engine and a helicopter to produce an optimal static pressure to regulate the airflow. This design allows the fan to

Additionally, this design allows the fan to regulate a maximum airflow of around 47.2 CFM while maintaining the maximum air pressure of 1.6 mmH₂O. These fans offer a speed ranging from about 650 RPM to 2000 RPM while producing a full noise of 30 dBA. Rifle bearings are used in these fans where they provide low noise operations and have a much more lifespan than other ball bearings, with an astonishing 160,000 hours of lifespan.

The aluminum radiator uses the standard design used by CoolerMaster, but they have decided to increase the surface area by 25% to increase the cooling performance. CoolerMaster went for the 3rd generation Dual Chamber Pump, which is taller than usual. It has sleeved tubings that can be easily adjusted due to the rotating option CoolerMaster has provided. The base plate is made of copper, and it doesn’t have any pre-applied thermal paste on it.

Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML360 Illusion

In terms of design, the long list doesn’t seem to stop because of the way it is built. The fan has a black plastic cover with RGB rings around it, which illuminate with 16.7 million colors. The top plate of the tall pump has a metallic brush metal finish with CoolerMaster’s logo etched into it. The pump is more elevated than usual because the shiny block is riddled with A-RGB LEDs. The cold plate does not have a mirror finish and contains machining marks with screws bolted around its edge. The fans are translucent, and the RGB is heavily spread throughout the fan, making the entire radiator appear extremely immersive.

What We Liked

This cooler has won our hearts in so many aspects. Firstly, the obvious reason is its RGB. The radial RGB pattern on the pump unit looks very appealing in this cooler since it mimics the same way as a loading screen or a running washing machine. They kept the tall black pump unit slightly transparent instead of making it translucent in white color, which makes it look more elegant and minimalistic. Other than that, the fans are elite with a longer lifespan and reduced noise levels that allow users to use this cooler as a long-term gem.

What We Disliked

Dislike is a harsh word for this cooler. However, CoolerMaster’s shorter fan design can be an issue for people who focus on extreme performance. Nonetheless, this cooler still provides optimal cooling performance.

What sets the Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML360 Illusion apart from its competitors?

This cooler’s top-notch ARGB lighting is an element that is rarely found in the market. This allows users to maximize their customization abilities without any limitations. Each fan can be individually programmed to display vivid lights in different patterns you desire. Even the pump unit has multiple lighting designs, including a radial loading-like pattern. Additionally, Cooler Master has increased the plastic around the cold plate to increase the robustness of the pump unit, so the product is not fragile.

Verdict

The Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML360 Illusion offers an optimal cooling solution with fewer noise levels and steals attention from the people around the room. The shorter fans might slightly decrease the performance, but they are worthwhile since this cooler instantly adds glamour to your PC after switching on. The visuals it provides are breathtaking, and it instantly glorifies any system, even if it wasn’t good-looking before. Therefore, it is safe to say that Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML360 Illusion is undoubtedly the Best RGB CPU cooler for Ryzen 7 5800X3D.

Size

When buying a CPU cooler, you must consider the RAM and the PCIe clearance that it offers. If you’re sporting an RGB RAM, a wider cooler can ruin the appearance. Whereas, if your RAM doesn’t attract any attention, you may get a larger cooler if you prefer. Not to mention that the higher-end RAM kits tend to get warmer, so choosing a cooler accordingly can help regulate enough airflow to keep the whole system cool.

Budget

Budget plays an important role in purchasing anything, even if it comes to a cooler for the CPU cooler for your Ryzen 7 5800X3D. It is crucial to keep in mind that most AIO liquid coolers are expensive while being more effective than air coolers. If you’re on a tight budget, you may consider going with an air cooler that is budget-friendly and efficient.

Noise

Noise is one of the most important factors to consider before buying any CPU cooler. Air coolers that produce less noise usually perform less efficiently. If you’re on a tighter budget and can endure slightly louder coolers, an air cooler might be the right option. However, choosing an AIO liquid cooler could be desirable since Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a powerful CPU that requires more cooling. Although, If you’re on a budget, you may want to go for a cheaper AIO liquid cooler that offers great cooling performance.

Performance

A powerful cooler is required for a powerful CPU like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Going for any cooler that provides optimal temperatures that don’t exceed 80° even under word load would get the job done.

Efficiency

Mostly a cooler’s ability to perform efficiently depends on its TDP. To overclock your already powerful beast, you must choose a cooler with a TDP that exceeds the TDP of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, which is 105 W.

Compatibility

Not all the coolers are compatible with the Ryzen 7 5800X3D because every cooler has different mounting procedures. It is important to check if the cooler supports the AM4 socket that the Ryzen 7 5800X3D uses as improper mounts can lead to overheating issues.

Aesthetics and Build Quality

Many users prefer the aesthetics and the appearance with a decent performance. However, many of them neglect the build quality since it doesn’t add to anything significant. It is always a good option to keep the build quality in mind, such as the overall finish of the cooler and its spotless design, since it tells how the brand has invested time to make it a high-tier product. It is also best to go for the ones that appear high quality and avoid the low-quality ones even if they are cheaper.

AIO vs. Air Cooler

To understand how both of these work, it is crucial to consider that they both use air. The water coolers also exchange air because they use air to cool the radiator. The heat is transferred from one of the pump units to the radiator and then exits the atmosphere. Whereas in an air cooler, they shift the heat through heat pipes into the cooling fin arrays where the fan regulates the airflow to cool it.

Moreover, AIO liquid coolers are more effective than air coolers by providing more cooling solutions with lesser noise. With these attributes, there comes a larger price tag. AIO liquid coolers are also more aesthetically pleasing since they are much neater and organized than most air coolers that take away RAM space and are usually bulky. However, many companies are aiming to produce air coolers that directly compete with 240mm AIO liquid coolers and are generally on the cheaper end, which cater to the users on a tight budget.

Ryzen 7 5800X3D Supported Socket

Since the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is a CPU manufactured by AMD, it uses the AM4 CPU socket. The previous Ryzen 3 and Ryzen 5 series were also based on the AM4 socket.
