During our gaming tests, the i7 23700K had a temperature range from 70°C to 78°C, while the Ryzen ran significantly cooler with a temperature range from 68°C to 74°C.

The higher core count of the 13700K also pushes out more heat, showing the risk of thermal throttling. There is a chance that this would negatively affect your gaming performance if you don’t have a good cooler installed.

Our test bench kitted with the 13700K had a power consumption of around 653 watts in total, though swapping out the Intel platform for the Ryzen 7 7700X gave us a total power consumption of around 561 watts. 

The difference in our numbers might seem different from what it actually is. It is unlikely that the i7 consumes 90 watts more than the Ryzen 7. Instead, most of the difference comes from the CPU limit being pushed further with the i7, allowing the RTX 4090 to perform better. This is not to say that there is no difference between the power consumption of these two processors, but it is quite smaller than the total power consumption would suggest and would not be as drastic if you have a weaker graphics card.

 Price And Availability

At the time of editing this comparison, the Core i7 13700K starts from around $345 new on Amazon, while the Ryzen 7 7700X starts for around $319. This is a relatively small difference in price, though the i7 also brings a relatively small improvement in performance. Both processors can be had for significantly cheaper in the new market.
